Gender based Violence is a pandemic in South Africa: GBV occurs in all communities, and across all demographics.
In 2018, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country was in crisis. In the same year, thousands of women and gender non-conforming people took to the streets across South Africa calling for an end of gender violence.
Several #TotalShutdown marches were held. One held at the Union Buildings, handing where a memorandum of demands was handed over to President Ramaphosa.
