The N3 Toll Concession has issued a road safety alert for motorists who are set to use the route on Monday.
The Concession’s Thania Dhoogra says rain, sleet, and light snowfall have been reported between Van Reenen Pass and Warden.
Dhoogra urged drivers to adjust their driving behavior to the prevailing road and wet weather conditions.
“These conditions may cause roads to become slippery and dangerous,” said Dhoogra. “Keep sufficient emergency supplies in your vehicle, including warm clothes and blankets, water, food, medication, a cell phone, its charger, and a torch.”
Meanwhile, The Johannesburg Emergency Services urged motorists to exercise caution when driving.
“It’s raining in most parts of the city of Johannesburg. Most roads are wet and slippery. Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, keep to the prescribed speed limit and also extend a safe following distance, avoid crossing areas which might be flooded,” said Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.
Mulaudzi further urged Joburg residents who are based in low-lying areas to avoid river streams.
“Our residents in our low-lying areas are urged to avoid crossing river streams and also to monitor young kids to stay away from river streams. As the Joburg EMS, we remain on high alert together with our specialised water-related unit to make sure that we can be able to respond to all the emergencies which might occur throughout Johannesburg.”
