Pay TV channel Supersport, has come on board to be one of the official broadcasters of the TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. The continental football tournament is scheduled to get underway this Saturday, 13th January 2024.

In a statement released late on Wednesday night, the MutliChoice owned sports channel confirmed that they will broadcast all 52 games of the TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations live, after securing the rights to the tournament from rights holders, New World TV.

“We are delighted to be able to showcase the best of African football live to our viewers” said SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha. SuperSport previously released a statement saying that they were unable to reach a commercially viable deal with the rights holders.

This then placed South Africa with a possible AFCON blackout, despite the national team Bafana Bafana participating in the continental showpiece. However, the SABC was able to confirm to the public, that they would broadcast all 52 matches live, on television, radio and digital platforms, avoiding a total blackout of the tournament.

With SuperSport confirming that they will broadcast the Cup of Nations, millions across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa are now able to view all the games, including the final which is set to take place on the 11th of February 2024, on both the SABC and Supersport platforms.
