Orlando Pirates will square off against Cape Town Spurs at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Urban Warriors got the better of The Buccaneers in the first round, defeating The Soweto Giants 2-1 at the Cape Town stadium.
The Sea-Robbers currently lie fourth on the premiership table on 29 points after 18 outings. Pirates are looking to take the fight to Cape Town City and Supersport United for a place in the top 3 in order to qualify for next season’s CAF Interclub Competitions and victory against Spurs will take them to second position.
Speaking to the media at the Rand stadium on Monday, coach José Riveiro said that he wants his players to keep improving in their performance. “We had two very difficult games away in Pretoria and Polokwane, we still unbeaten at home this year so now its time to…like Tapelo said to give continuity to these two results, these two performances.
We start the second half of the season maybe with a bitter taste after the last result the game we played against Stellenbosch at home was probably our best game at home during 75 minutes and was excellent our performance”, Riveiro said.
“We didn’t finish the first part of the season that bad but those three minutes changed a lot the perspective about the team. So what we are doing now is continuity again to that first part of the season. I think we were in a good moment but with two really bad results but now we are finding the way to not concede. We concede one goal in Pretoria numerical inferiority but till that day we were solid.
“We managed to keep a clean sheet which is something crucial for us and we want to give continuity to that. We know the difficulty of the moment because like you said everybody is fighting for something now this moment of the season the objectives are more clear for each and every team”.
Pirates are fully focused on the Spurs game before turning their focus to the Soweto Derby arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
