A Twenty-one(21)-year-old Brazilian national has been arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport, East of Johannesburg – for alleged drug trafficking on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrest comes as the South African Police Services Safer Festive season operations are underway across the country, to ensure the safety of every individual in South Africa.
The alleged drug mule is the sixteenth (16th) individual to get arrested for drug trafficking at the airport since July 2024.
National Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says the suspect will appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court before the end of the week.
Mathe says the 21-year-old is facing charges of drug possession and drug trafficking.
“The drug mule was taken to a local hospital where a medical x-ray confirmed the presence of foreign objects in his stomach,” said Mathe.
“The process to release these foreign objects has started and SAPS can confirm that plastic covered cocaine bullets are being released from the suspect”.
