Orlando Pirates played out to a goalless draw against Al Ahly SC in their CAF Champions League match at the Orlando stadium on Saturday afternoon. Both sides went into this encounter having won their opening matches of the group stages with The Buccaneers having defeated CR Belouizdad 2-1 in Algiers while The Club of the century saw off Stade d’Abidjan 4-2 in Cairo.
The Sea Robbers were looking to reignite their rivalry with the Egyptian giants as the two sides last faced each other back in 2013 in the two legged champions league final, playing to a 1-1 in the first leg in Orlando before The Red Devils claiming the championship with a 2-0 victory in the second leg in Cairo.
Al Ahly came into this appointment with The Buccaneers with a lot of expectations as the reigning champions, having recently secured a record 12th title. They have not won in South Africa during their last 15 trips, registering eight draws and seven losses against PSL teams since 2001.
Ahly and Pirates remain first and second respectively in group C, equal on four points with Ahly having a great goal difference. Pirates will travel to Ivory Coast to face Stade d’Abidjan in match day three while Ahly will host CR Belouizdad in Cairo.
