Kaizer Chiefs thrashed ABC Motsepe outfit Free Agents FC 3-0 in their Nedbank Cup match at the FNB stadium on Sunday evening. Amakhosi went into this encounter needing nothing but a victory as the Nedbank Cup is the only domestic cup left that they can compete for.
Pule Mmodi rose to the occasion as he opened the scoring charts for the Soweto giants, finding the back of the net to make it 1-0 in the 18th minute through an assist from goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma. The talented winger then completed his brace as he slotted another goal in the 26th minute, allowing the Naturena-based side take a 2 nil lead heading into the halftime break.
Inacio Miguel increased Chiefs’ scoreline tally as he scored a scorching header in the 62nd minute to make it 3-0. Ranga Chivaviro sealed the victory for the glamour boys as he scored the fourth goal to eliminate a 10-men Agents out of the cup competition.
The victory sees Amakhosi book their spot in the last 16 of the cup competition. With the league title well out of their reach, the Nedbank Cup remains the only cup left in store for them for contention, but it will all depend on who they draw against in the last 16.
The victory also serves as a morale booster for Chiefs ahead of the upcoming blockbuster sold out Soweto Derby against arch rivals Orlando Pirates next weekend. Pirates also won their Nedbank Cup last 32 tie 3-1 against fellow betWay premiership outfit Richards Bay FC.
