Supersport United thrashed Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in their betWay premiership match at the FNB stadium on Tuesday evening. Matsatsantsa A Pitori went into this match at the back of a 2-1 victory against Cape Town Spurs in the Nedbank Cup, as they look to shy away from the relegation zone.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic haunted the hosts as he opened the scoring charts for the Megawatt based side in the 3rd minute from a Gamphani Lungu cross. However, newly signed attacker Glody Makabi Lilepo managed to find the equalizer in the 30th minute, heading the ball in the back of the net courtesy of a cross from Pule Mmodi.

The equalizer joy was short lived as the haunted mission continued as another former Amakhosi striker in Christian Saile, scoring the second goal through a Nurkovic cross, taking a 2-1 lead heading into the halftime break. Former Matsatsantsa striker Tashreeq Morris wasted a glorious opportunity to find an equaliser in the 57th minute after his shot went wide. Morris missed a second chance in a space of three minutes after his shot was easily saved by Ricardo Goss

Gamphani Lungu increased the lead for United after scoring from a rebound of a Bruce Bvuma save to make it 3-1, rubbing more salt on Chiefs’ defense woes, proving the dysfunctional tactical organisation in the defense. It never rained but poured for the Naturena based side as Gaston Sirino was shown his marching orders after a second yellow card in the 68th minute as Chiefs finished the match with 10-man.

Siphesihle Ndlovu nailed the final nail onto the coffin, sealing the deal for SuperSport with a stunning shot to make it 4-1 seven minutes from time. Gavin Hunt’s charges have now completed a league double over Chiefs for just the fourth time in the PSL era and first time since the 2011/12 season.

The victory also sees Gavin Hunt celebrate a milestone in style as he was in charge of his nine hundred and ninety nine match in top-flight football as a coach, winning four league titles – 3 titles with Supersport United and 1 with the now defunct Bidvest and domestic cup title with Moroka Swallows.
