Newly promoted betWay premiership outfit Durban City have announced Gavin Hunt as their new head coach for the upcoming 2025/26 betWay premiership season. Hunt has been unattached following his departure from the now defunct Supersport United, after taking charge of his 1000th game of his coaching career.
The Durban based side parted ways with Simon Dladla despite guiding the club back to top flight football. The club also released a statement to confirm Hunt’s appointment.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gavin to Durban City. His record speaks for itself and we believe he is the right person to lead our team into this exciting new era,” said club chairman Farook Kadodia.
“His professionalism, football knowledge and winning mentality are exactly what the Club needs as we strive to compete at the highest level.”
City becomes Hunt’s 10th club after he started his coaching career at Seven Stars, before joining Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United and most recently his second stint with Supersport United.
Hunt will be expected to hit the ground running for City for a new dawn in the betWay premiership as he will working alongside Ernst Middendorp, who has been appointed as the club’s technical director and the club has also been linked with Darren Keet and Thulani Hlatshwayo, two players who have worked with Hunt before.
