Mamelodi Sundowns will look to consolidate their status as the most comfortably placed South African club in CAF competitions when they host Remo Stars at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

Sundowns hammered Remo Stars 5-1 in the first leg of the qualifiers away last Sunday, putting one foot into the group stage of the premier interclub knockout competition, which was a drubbing for one of Nigeria’s more established NPFL sides.

“It’s an important match ahead , that is the second of a qualifying round where we have big responsibility . We don’t relate with the result that comes from first match , we relate with the opportunity that we have to make a statement of what we’ve been doing after the first match we played in Nigeria .Obviously our focus was to try to recover as quick as possible for all the trip and the impact of that match . The result makes it look like the match was easier than it was , not only because of the conditions in we played under . We put it to ourselves to win a match over there not only for qualifying round but mostly internationally as an achievement and there was a record broken”, said coach Cardoso.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has also seen some pressure lifted off his shoulders following a mixed start to the season, which is why he has stressed the importance of continuing with their ethos of winning even when a tie appears to be wrapped up.
