How the Wits Community can use VOW FM to Advertise

Voice of Wits is the Community station for Wits University and is a resource for all within the Wits Community. The station aims to provide its community with a broadcasting service that is relevant, exciting, innovative, of exceptional quality, informative and educational whilst also being entertaining, accurate, fresh and community specific. To do this the community needs to help direct and shape the content by actively engaging with the station. There are many ways that this can be done:

All students’ societies, Departments, Schools, Faculties and the SRC can use VOW FM to promote market and advertise their activities, events, meetings and campaigns. There is no charge for this service as long as it is in the interests of the community and not a commercial venture. For example an event that students must pay to attend with the aim of making a profit for the party concerned will not be supported unless advertising is purchased as per the standard rate card. If the profit from an event is in aid of charity, then VOW FM will support the initiative for free. To take advantage of the opportunity, you must send the information and/or a script to or or dropped off at the VOW FM offices 9th floor University Corner. The information should be submitted 72 hours before advertising is required to start airing. We can create the advert or PSA as per script or brief provided. This can be approved by the society concerned.

VOW FM conducts regular interviews on-air for a variety of people, busineses and causes. You can request an interview by sending an interview request to or or visiting us at the VOW FM offices 9th floor University Corner.

VOW FM Talk (Mon-Thurs) tackles various topics and issues affecting the Wits community and society at large. The station aims to have constructive meaningful debates and discussions around these topics/issues. All Witsies are welcome to bring ideas for debates and discussions to VOW FM.

VOW FM also accepts programme ideas from the Wits community. We strive to provide interesting diverse programming and are always open to new programme ideas. To propose your concept, you can put together a brief programme proposal and schedule a meeting with the programme manager and or station manager 011 717 4736 . Not all concepts are viable and not all concepts can be implemented. We will try to implement as many as possible.
