DStv Premiership outfit Moroka Swallows have announced that they parted ways with coach Steve Komphela by mutual agreement. Komphela took over The Dube Birds at the beginning of the season having had a successful stint with reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the role of senior coach and first team coach.
The separation of the two parties comes at the back of Swallows having terminated contracts of 22 of their players with Issues faced by Komphela at the club having been the subject of much discussion since the coach revealed tensions surrounding a players’ strike following Swallows’ December clash against SuperSport United.
Komphela had taken the helm at Swallows seven months ago in a blaze of hope in a quest to revive the club’s glory days with the club reverting to its original name of Moroka Swallows and Drip coming in as the kit sponsor. However, the harsh realities of the Dube Birds’ financial woes proved to be a formidable opponent.

The Dube Birds wished coach Steve Komphela all the best in his future endeavours and that they are grateful for the contributions he has made to the Club.
Komphela also took to X and expressed his gratitude and the opportunity that the club has afforded him. The club currently lies on 13th position on the premiership table on 19 points after 17 outings. Their next assignment will be away to Platinum City Rovers in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday the 24th of February at the Isak Steyl stadium. Musa Nyatama is set to take over at the helm.
