Belgium rebounded from their shock 1-0 defeat to Slovakia with a convincing 2-0 win against Romania in Cologne, reigniting their tournament hopes. The Red Devils wasted no time, with Youri Tielemans scoring in the second minute, assisted by Romelu Lukaku.
Despite Romania’s attempts to equalize through Valentin Mihaila and Dennis Man, Belgium held firm. Captain Kevin De Bruyne sealed the victory with a goal in the 80th minute, capping off an outstanding individual performance.
Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco expressed relief at the win but noted his team could have scored more goals. Lukaku had two goals disallowed for offside, continuing his frustrating run from the previous match.
The result leaves Group E finely balanced, with all four teams on three points following Ukraine’s 2-1 victory over Slovakia, a first in the entire history of the UEFA EURO Championships. Belgium’s next match against Ukraine and Romania’s clash with Slovakia will be crucial in determining who advances to the knockout stages.
