Kiazer Chiefs in partnership with their vehicle sponsor Toyota are set to host Tanzanian Premier League champions Young African SC in their inaugural pre-season tournament, the Toyota Cup, which was launch at the Toyota South African Motors Headquarters in Sandton, on Monday. The ‘ground-breaking pre-season Cup’, as Amakhosi describes it, will see the club face off against some of Africa’s top football clubs during the off-season for the next three years as an extension to Chiefs’ current sponsorship agreement with Toyota SA.

Interestingly, the two teams met last season in a pre-season encounter where Yanga hosted their South African counterparts in Dar Es Salaam as a way to build up their Week ya Wananchi celebrations with the clash. This time around, Yanga makes the trip to Bloemfontein as the two clubs look to strengthen relations and also build club football, commercialize their game, seeing that Yanga president Eng. Hersi Ally Said and Chiefs’ marketing director Jessica Motaung are the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the newly formed African Clubs Association. The two clubs will also use the match to gauge their readiness for the new season in their respective leagues.

Football fans in Bloemfontein are once again in for a treat as the city gears up to host this mouth-watering clash. This match will see Chiefs take on Yanga at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday the 28th of July 2024, with the kickoff time set for 3pm. Before the Amakhosi and Yanga tie, The City of Roses will witness a curtain-raiser match featuring legends of Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic as a way to not only serve as a warm-up for the main event but also as a tribute to the late Ntate Petrus Molemela, Life President of Celtic and a champion of football in Mangaung.
