Al Ahly SC, Wydad AC, Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Mamelodi Sundowns have all learnt their fate of the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup which is set to take place in the United States of America next year with the draw of the respective groups having been concluded in Miami on Thursday evening.
The Egyptian giants Ahly have been drawn in group A where they’ll open their campaign against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, then entertain Brazilian giants SE Palmeiras and then conclude with Portuguese champions FC Porto.
Rhulani Mokwena will realize his dream where his Wydad team has been drawn in group G where they’ll open their account against his idol Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, then square off against former Serie A champions Juventus FC and wrap up their group stages with an encounter against UAE Pro League outfit Al Ain FC.
The Blood and Gold Club will fancy their chances as they have been drawn in group D where they’ll first face Flamengo, then battle it out against Club Leon of Mexico and then close off their group stages against English premier league side Chelsea.
Reigning South African league champion Mamelodi Sundowns will participate in their second FIFA Club World Cup tournament and have been drawn in group F where they’ll take on Korean championship outfit Ulsan HD, then lock horns with Borussia Dortmund and then conclude their group stages campaign against Brazil’s Fluminense.
Al Ahly are FIFA Club World Cup bronze medalists which they claimed during former coach Pitso Mosimane’s coaching reign at the club and will look to give a great showing next year while Wydad, Esperance and Sundowns will look to complete the first assignment of progressing past the groups stages before entertaining any prospect of winning the tournament.
The tournament is set to take place from the 15th of June till the 13th of July 2025.
